There are three paths to investing with NEST: Age-Based Options, Static Options and Individual Options.
Age Based Investment Options
Each Age-Based Investment Option contains an allocation of assets among domestic equity, real estate, international equity, international bond, fixed income and money market underlying investments. Contributions are placed into a portfolio according to the beneficiary's age, with an asset allocation that best represents the amount of time until the money will be used for college. These allocations adjust automatically over time, becoming more conservative as your child reaches college age. Each Age-Based Investment Option has five portfolios: Ages 0-5, 6-10, 11-14, 15-18 and 19+ - each having a more conservative allocation than the previous portfolio. At ages 6, 11, 15 and 19, the account moves to the next portfolio one month after the beneficiary has reached the first age of the next portfolio.
Static Investment Options
Static Investment Options offer a fixed allocation throughout the life of your account. Unlike Age-Based Investment Options, Static Investment Options do not shift to a more conservative allocation mix as your child approaches college enrollment.
Working with your financial advisor and discussing your goals and risk tolerance can help you choose which Static Investment Option-Growth, Balanced Index or Conservative is most appropriate for you.
Individual Investment Options
You can select one or more of the 20 Individual Investment Options from well-respected investment managers including the Bank Savings Individual Investment Option (an FDIC-insured option) to create a customized allocation portfolio. Account owners do not own shares of the underlying investments directly or, in the case of the Bank Savings Individual Investment Option, directly hold a savings account, but rather own an interest in the Individual Investment Options offered by the NEST Advisor Plan.

Except for the Bank Savings Individual Investment Option, the performance of each Individual Investment Option may be more volatile than Age-Based or Static Investment Options.
